Preteen Service Project

The Preteen class had their fall workday at Michaux Manor. There were 18 preteen students who participated. It went great! First they cleaned up the gardens, weeding, and bagging dead summer flowers. Then they went indoors and made a Thanksgiving favor for each resident to put at their place in the cafeteria. The kitchen workers treated us to hot chocolate and donuts as a surprise. We ended up at Brothers' Pizza for lunch. The whole day was really a blast. Not too cold. Not too hot. Juuust right!!!

Service with a smile!

Bring on the weeds!

What great teamwork!!

Who are these kids?!

Working on their Thanksgiving favors.

The finished project- you all did a great job!

Thank you Preteens for reaching out and serving the world!

Story Time Quilt

A “story time quilt” was completed by students and friends of CrossWalk Church for Rescue Children Orphanage in Haiti. The project began back in May when students in CrossWalk Kids each designed a square which included their name and drawings of things each child considered important to them. During this time the class learned about the country of Haiti, and was particularly impressed by the poverty, hunger, malnutrition, and AIDS with which this island nation contends. Wishing to do a small part to help, the class connected with Rescue Children Orphanage, and the quilt project was born.
Rescue Children was founded in 2003 by Mrs. Lynda Morrison of Spartanburg, South Carolina. There are 15 orphans in residence at the facility outside Port-au-Prince at the present time. The mission of the orphanage is to provide destitute children with food, safe drinking water, shelter, and clothing as well as education and vocational skills. Sharing Jesus’ love for them is the foundation of the ministry. Mrs. Morrison plans to use the quilt as a place for orphans to sit for their nightly Bible story time.
