Poarch family

Dear CrossWalk Kids families,

Our CrossWalk Children's Ministry is glad to inform you of a new opportunity for our families and especially our children to SERVE THE WORLD!

This spring we have a new project to serve God - by serving others - specifically those who are ministering to people outside of Waynesboro and even the US. Although most of us are not able to pack up and move to the jungle to teach and share God's message, we can still be a part of God's bigger plan for reaching all people with the Good News. We want our children to hear stories and be encouraged through the faith of believers who are able to go to remote and exciting places. So..... we have “adopted” the Poarch family as our Children's Ministry Missionaries! For the next several months we are inviting all kids at CWC to get to know the Poarches, their three children, and their work with the Da'an tribe of West Borneo Indonesia.

James and Nicky Poarch live in a very remote part of jungle area of Indonesia – it is a three hour boat ride to their village! Their main purpose is to translate the Bible into the native Da'an language so that the believing Da'an people can evangelize other neighboring villages. The Poarch family is a great representation of CWC. They are a young family with three children – Emily who is 10, Luke is 8, and Samantha is 6.

Our goal is to help the Poarches by providing them the necessary funds ($600) to purchase one battery for their battery operated solar panels – this is their only way to have power. Each child will be bringing home a “bank” to collect money and on the last Sunday of each month from January thru June we will remind kids to bring in their banks so we can fill up our donation buckets at church. Every week the kids will hear some new and interesting facts about life as a missionary, the Poarch family or children, the people of Indonesia, and even video clips of the kids working and playing at home and in the jungles of West Borneo!

Here are some things for you to keep in mind as we encourage our children to pray for and support missions:
- keep your banks out in the open – perhaps in the kitchen or a central area of the home
- give them small “jobs” to earn some extra money to donate
- empty your pockets after work and/or errands in the banks!
- pray for the Poarch family and their work in translating the Bible - more prayer ideas/fliers will come home in the future
- look up West Borneo on a map and research more about this part of God's world together

Thank you for serving with us,
CWC Children's Ministry Team
